Grant Alvis
Growing up, Grant Alvis's time was divided between bodies of water and local golf courses. As the years progressed though, his affinity for time on the water gradually overtook time on the greens.
Grant's transition into an angler was a natural progression. His development as an angler started with simpler endeavors like pond hopping for bass and wading the rivers of central Virginia for smallmouth and flathead catfish.
Over time, his pursuit for next bite took him off the banks and into small watercraft that would open new windows of opportunity. Grant succeeded quickly as a kayak angler, in short order becoming a member of Hobie Kayaks' fishing team.
Grant honed his skills as a multi-species angler by kayak for the better part of a decade. Today, Grant utilizes a flats skiff to extend his range even further out into Virginia's diverse fresh and saltwater ecosystems.
A talented multi-species angler, Grant has logged trophy awards in over 20 of Virginia’s 30 eligible freshwater species as well as 8 different saltwater species. While capable of targeting just about any fish that swims, his passion resides in the shallows and the various fresh and saltwater species that call them home. Whether he’s sight casting to snakeheads and bowfin in the marshes or poling his skiff to belly crawling redfish on the flats,
you can be sure that Grant is doing what he loves the most. Beyond a demonstrated talent in conventional gear fishing Grant will also regularly be contributing articles and various how- to’s from the fly fishing side of the angling world.
