Ellis Wynn
Ellis Wynn is a fly fisherman out of the Southeastern United States who cut his teeth with a fly rod on panfish, bass, bowfin, gar, and the trout found in the small streams of North Georgia and North Carolina.
Growing up in the South, Ellis and his father would often spend days walking creek banks and fishing
from their Old Town kayak for the large panfish and different species of bass found in their local bodies
of water.
In college, Ellis reacquainted himself with fly fishing and has rapidly become more involved in it over the
last few years. He has a particular affection for the ‘rough fish’ found throughout the South because of
their hard fighting spirit and presence in almost every body of water on the East coast.
In 2022, he established a YouTube channel called Halfmoon Fly Fishing, which chronicles his adventures with a fly rod pursuing everything from Tarpon in the Everglades to Trout in Southwest Montana, and Bowfin in the Okefenokee Swamp. Ellis also enjoys photography, art, videography, fly tying, kayak camping, and backpacking (when he has time.) Ellis hopes to educate and provide entertainment for those anglers becoming aware of the variety of fish to be caught on the fly other than trout. More recently, he has become more involved in the conservation efforts to protect the river systems in the South.
He mostly fishes from a kayak but will switch to wade fishing when water levels and conditions are
optimal, or when he is deep in the backcountry of the national forests pursuing native brook trout.
